Munches

"Munches" are informal gatherings held at a local eatery. They give people interested in BDSM a chance to meet and socialize in a casual and quiet environment. Topics discussed at previous munches have ranged from apartment shopping to making toys. About 8-12 people usually come, although we have had as many as 20 sometimes. Dress casual; don't wear anything you wouldn't wear to a restaurant any other time.

Headspace hosts a munch every month. It is held the third Thursday of each month from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Denny's, 2160 N. Walnut St. (Walnut and the Bypass, click here for map), Bloomington.

Speakers Panels

Headspace organizes speakers panels for classes and groups interested in discussing BDSM-related issues. Panels usually consist of 2-6 people willing to discuss their feelings, experiences and attitudes aboug BDSM. The panelists provide a short introduction then answer questions from the audience. As part of the panels we try to:

  1. Provide personal experiences and examples for discussion.
  2. Present points of view not always represented in either fictional or academic discussions of BDSM.
  3. Show that BDSM is practiced by real people who are members of the Bloomington and Indiana University communities.

If you are interested in having a panel speak to your group or class, mail bdsmers@indiana.edu

Educational Workshops and Classes

Headspace attempts to present an educational workshop or class once a month. Once a semester we usually present SM101 which is a basic introduction to what BDSM is. Other topics that have been presented or are being planned are:

Educational workshops are usually held in Ballantine Hall on the Indiana University (Bloomington) campus, 1020 E. Kirkwood. Click here for a campus map. See the calendar of events for information about upcoming educational programs. The opinions of our workshop presenters are their own and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Headspace, its steering committee, Indiana University or the BDSM community.

Book Raffles

After some of its workshops, Headspace raffles off a book. It may be fiction or nonfiction, but it will always be BDSM-related. Tickets are $1 each and will be on sale at the two munches before a workshop (first Saturday and third Thursday of the month) and at the door of the workshop itself, and the drawing takes place at the end of the workshop. Please remember that all proceeds go toward bringing out-of-town speakers in to provide better workshops for you! Also, a great way to support Headspace is to donate books about BDSM that are in good condition and represent Headspace's goals of safety, sanity, consensuality, and fun!
