EXPERIENCE & PUBLICATIONS MEDIA As the Manager of Surveys for the CBS News/New York Times poll, Dr. Von Der Haar worked with reporters and producers covering political campaigns and elections. She maintains a keen interest in media and serves on advisory boards for Annual Editions: Media Issues and Taking Sides: Mass Media and Society. SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY Dr. Von Der Haar has taught social psychology for over twenty years. It is an interest that guides much of what she studies--public opinion polls, political campaigns and voting behavior, advertising and consumer behavior, impression management, and many other forms of curious everyday behavior. Her textbook, Social Psychology: A Sociological Perspective was published in 2005 by Prentice Hall. GLOBAL MARKETING AND ADVERTISING Do consumers around the world have the same desires and basic needs? Can we ignore the importance of cultural differences in global marketing? Will a Coca-Cola ad created in the United States work in China? As a faculty member in the Liberal Arts and Management Program (LAMP), Dr. Von Der Haar explores this topic with students. Taking culture as a key element in the creation of successful cross-cultural ads, this intensive writing course is designed to spark students' imaginations and to test their critical thinking skills.
