Québec City: Winter Wonderland

Welcome to Ms. Gullett's science class! This lesson was inspired by my trip to Carneval de Québec. Use the worksheet to complete your assignment. Work Sheet Enjoy!

Here is one of the street vendors at Carneval de Québec. He pours piping hot pure maple syrup onto a long, clean metal table. You take a tongue depressor like my friend is holding and quickly swirl the syrup into a ball on the stick. It instantly freezes into a delicious maple lollipop!

Each year during Carnaval de Québec an ice palace is built. For more than two weeks, thousands of people walk through it!

As you can imagine, it has to be pretty cold to keep a palace made out of ice safe for people to walk on for weeks at a time. Click here to learn how to convert the Celsius scale used in Québec to the Fahrenheit scale we use in the United States.

The average temperature during my visit was -26! Click here to view the current weather in Québec City. Convert the current Celsius temperature to Fahrenheit and write it on your worksheet.
