I always admire professors and regard them as aliens that possess supernatural intelligence. Thus, I expect them to be eccentric, ill-tempered and unpredictable-some personalities distinguishing them from the commons. But after one semester and especially during being research assistant of a few professors, I found they are humans like everyone else. All the professors I have known so far are humorous, accessible and affable. This discovery pacified me and released me from the anxiety that before becoming a professor (my career objective), I will have to suffer a secretive and painful process in which I will be genetically modified¡to be an alien¡

I can¡¯t be luckier to have a part-time job in the Business/SPEA Library where I have enjoyed a very friendly and agreeable atmosphere. I like all my colleagues who are so helpful and considerate. They have overturned my long established image of the Americans-strict, cold and inflexible. In the library festival in the Sports Bar, I said I might not be allowed to drink beers if I didn¡¯t bring my passport with me. Then Terry said: ¡°In that case, I would say you are my son.¡± ¡°But I have black hair, black eyes and yellow skin¡ You may say I am adopted.¡± Everyone smiled. I felt I was already one of them at that moment.

It¡¯s almost by accident that I became the center¡¯s information technology assistant. And then I developed its official website. It has been very interesting and challenging experience. Besides the staff, the center has more than a dozen associates from IU, a visiting scholar and a postdoctoral fellow. I believe I will vastly academically benefit from the RCCPB. I will help the director promote its reputation.
