F315: Phonetics and Pronunciation
Text: Valdman, Albert. 1993. Bien entendu ! Introduction à la prononciation française. Prentice Hall.
Description: This upper-level course targeted the theory and practice of overcoming typical markers of American accent in spoken French. The class met five days a week and consisted of lecture, drill, and lab sessions. Dr. Kelly Sax led the lecture portion of the course, and I was responsible for reinforcing the subject matter in the drill and lab sections.
Syllabus (drill section): See attached.
Reflection: This has been my favorite course yet taught. Phonology and second language acquisition are my primary research interests, and sharing a subject that I have a personal enthusiasm for was an especially exciting teaching opportunity. Furthermore, this was my first semester working with students who had chosen to specialize in French as a minor or major, and their level of motivation and interest pushed me to higher levels as well.
