Evaluations

Students submit their evaluations of every aspect of the program directly to the program director, who compiles them and sends them on to the instructors. Below are some selected comments on the areas of the program that pertain directly to my teaching.

Grammar

  • Very well constructed and thorough.
  • I enjoyed the way it was taught and everyone was given the chance to participate.
  • She really helped me to love grammar.
  • My understanding of grammar is so much more vast and fluid now than at the beginning.
  • She explained concepts that are difficult to grasp in English, let alone in French.
  • Some concepts were hard for me to grasp, since I hadn’t learned them before; but Rebecca was always nice and helpful, explaining things until we understood.
  • This class helped me tremendously; it enabled me to form complete sentences and have normal conversations with my family.
  • I could use what I learned all the time.
  • Rebecca commanded respect by being engaging and interesting.
  • I loved the energy of this class—it was always upbeat and happy.
  • The teaching style was question-based: she gave examples or questions we would all figure out together, and I really enjoyed this hands-on learning.

Phonetics

  • Rebecca was the best teacher for this class—she knew from experience what we would have trouble with and how to help us; her insight in the “r” and other sounds was unique and extremely helpful.
  • I was more attentive to sounds after this class.
  • Out of all the classes this one helped the most when speaking.

Instructor

  • I really like the techniques she used to teach us.
  • She really knew what she was talking about, and her absolute love of the subject truly showed.
  • I feel as if she even reached those who weren’t so keen on the subject.
  • Her teaching style fit my learning style.
  • I despise grammar, but her inspiration and enthusiasm made me like it.
  • Encouraging, friendly, helpful.
  • Always happy and smiling.
  • Always enthusiastic and energetic.
  • No matter my frustration, she encouraged me and told me that just because I didn’t understand something the first time didn’t mean I wasn’t intelligent.
  • She was an inspiration to me as an American trying to succed in the French language—after witnessing her success, I gained hope in my abilities.

Theatre

  • Rebecca was an amazing director; it was never dull since we played games to help break the ice and monotony.
  • It was fun with Rebecca and I learned new vocabulary and better pronunciation too.

Sports

  • Rebecca had a running group, and one day some students even did yoga with her.
  • Yoga was amazing!

Support groups

  • The atmosphere was great and it felt very welcoming.
  • I would’ve been quite comfortable sharing my problems there, and I knew Rebecca truly wanted to help.
  • I could express my concerns and ask questions.
  • Teachers kept us accountable and reminded us of the importance of following the rules.
