Sharon Stephens Brehm, Ph.D.
Biography
Sharon Stephens Brehm received a B.A. from Duke University, graduating Phi
Beta Kappa with honors in psychology, an A.M. in social relations from
Harvard University, and returned to Duke for her Ph.D. in clinical
psychology. Dr. Brehm was a faculty member in the Department of Psychology
at the University of Kansas for 15 years, where she was selected as an
Intra-University Professor and appointed Director of the College Honors
Program. Subsequently, she served as Dean of the Harper College of Arts
and Sciences at the State University of New York at Binghamton, Provost at
Ohio University, and Chancellor of Indiana University Bloomington. During
2004, she will serve as Senior Advisor to the President of Indiana
University, and plans to return in 2005 to full-time faculty status as
Professor of Psychology.
Dr. Brehm has published numerous books, chapters, and articles in both
clinical and social psychology, including two textbooks in multiple
editions. She was a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar at the École des
Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales and a visiting professor in Germany
and Italy. She is a Fellow of the Society for Personality and Social
Psychology.
Dr. Brehm was chair of the governing board of OhioLINK, the state-wide
higher education consortium, and founding chair of the governing board of
the Ohio Learning Network. She is currently a member of the Finance
Committee of the American Psychological Association, the Bloomington
Chamber of Commerce, and the Bloomington Area Arts Council. She will join
the board of the Association of American Colleges and Universities at
their January 2004 meeting. She has a strong interest in international
education having served on the American Council on Education's
International Commission, the Midwest Regional Advisory Board of the
Institute of International Education, and the Advisory Committee for the
ARL (Association of Research Libraries) and AAU (Association of American
Universities) Global Resources Program.
