Senior Oracle Database/Unix System Administrator

n    Provide all levels of support: Install Oracle, create databases and schemas, complete backups using RMAN and attend to the specific requests of multiple customers in IU’s Research community. Allocate file systems, create startup scripts, create links, and compile/install system software. Also have installed Apache/Tomcat Servers, configured Perl DBI/DBD, and CGI connections to the databases.

1999 - 2003        Indiana University                                  Bloomington, IN

Principal Unix System Administrator

n    Primarily responsible for the installation and support of fully populated Sun Microsystems E10000. Provided support to IU’s Research community. Compiled open-source software, updated the operating system, managed support contracts, installed and supported software including SSH, Veritas, Raid Manager, SPSS, PBS and evaluated failures and replaced hardware. Also responsible for providing hardware and software support on SGI Origin 2000.

System Support Engineer

n    Provided quality customer support onsite at Eli Lilly where I installed three E10000s, external disks and installed the operating system, Veritas software, HPC Cluster Tools and assisted in knowledge transfer to Eli Lilly employees.

1996 - 1997        Boehringer Mannheim                             Indianapolis, IN

Unix System Administrator/Supervisor

n    Installed hardware, Solaris and supported a Secure Card system. Supported Online Disksuite, Legato Backup software and provided support to Oracle and Sybase Database Administrators. Ultimately became Supervisor of four employees.

System Support Engineer/ Kernel Support Engineer/PAL Engineer

n    Washington, D.C. 1994 – 1996

n    Provided onsite software support at Fannie Mae. As Account Manager, acted as liaison between the customer and Sun Sales and Support. Also analyzed core dumps, installed hardware  and software including NIS+, DNS and other packages.

n    Mountain View, CA 1992 – 1994

n    As a Kernel Support Engineer, provided phone support to customers experiencing system software and hardware crashes. Analyzed core dumps, provided instruction, workarounds, patches and interfaced with Engineering to obtain patches and submit bug reports. Provided kernel configuration assistance. Assisted onsite Sun Engineers.

n    Account Manager for a select group of Sun Microsystems’ customers as a Personal Answer Line (PAL) Engineer. Provided phone support in a variety of software and hardware areas and made quarterly onsite visits to meet face-to-face, assess needs and prioritize various customer requests.
