Treasure of Unicorn Gold was a game module published by Metagaming for use with their RPGs, Melee and Wizard. It was a sequel to Treasure of the Silver Dragon, and like it offered clues to a real treasure worth $10,000 in cash. However, whereas the Silver Dragon puzzle was solved within a few weeks of its release, the results of the Unicorn Gold prize are unknown. Metagaming went out of business not long after ToUG was published, and no one seems to know if the gold unicorn was ever located, or if the prize was awarded. And mysteriously, Howard Thompson, president and ToUG designer seems to have disappeared of his own accord. Since no one knows if the prize was claimed, I suspect it was not. Hence, this page. I am hoping that with a concerted effort, the internet community can collaborate, and eventually come up with a definitive solution to the puzzle. The prize would no longer be awarded, and the unicorn is likely long gone, but it will still be interesting to put the mystery of its location to rest. Below are what I consider to be the primary clues scattered throughout the game module booklet. I have made notes in red on those that I have ideas or solutions for. At the bottom of the page are some additional notes, which I will eventually try to format a little better.
