About Travis

Travis Ross is a PhD student at Indiana University's School of Telecommunications. His interests include the role of media in cultural transmission, evolutionary dynamics, and all types of games. Specifically, he is focused on topics such as modeling player behavior in games, and the development of games as tools for social science experimentation.

Travis holds a Masters of Information Science from Indiana University, and a B.S. in Computer Science from Indiana University Southeast. In the past he worked as a software developer for Samtec, Inc. and Service Net - both relatively small but fast growing companies in Louisville, Kentucky. More recently, he had the opportunity to serve the United States Peace Corps as an Information Technology/Education Volunteer in Bartica, Guyana. His Peace Corps work allowed him to experience firsthand the promise technology, particularly gaming, holds for literacy and education in the developing world. He also has volunteered as an assistant production manager for Arden: World of William Shakespeare, and presented the idea of using virtual worlds as social science Petri Dishes in locations such as Berlin, Washington D.C., and Barcelona. For the last year he has worked as the lead programmer for a web-based virtual world under production at IU that has yet to be released.
